About the CAMC

The Canadian Association of Municipal Communicators is a non-profit professional association specifically created to bring together local government communications professionals from across the country, while helping the industry – and, in effect, your organizations – grow!

For years, there have been professional associations specific to numerous other leaders within municipalities, but nothing specific to municipal communicators – despite communications leaders bringing immense value to the organization. Your communications efforts are your organization's No. 1 tool in building a relationship with residents, and comms leaders are some of the most strategic minds in local government.

At the same time, there has been a notable rise in residents' demands and expectations tied to municipal public communications over the past five years, specifically. Residents want transparency and accountability. They expect to know what their local government is doing at every turn, and the 'why' behind it all.

Alongside this increased demand, municipal communicators have been faced with more challenges than ever before, including but not limited to:

  • Difficult public discourse;
  • Misinformation/Disinformation;
  • Shifts in how we communicate with residents;
  • A decreased local media presence;
  • Decreased trust in local government;
  • A demand for more engagement, both from the community and from elected officials; and,
  • A sharp rise in the number of emergent events and crises with a major public communications component.

Meanwhile, municipal communicators are facing ever-constrained capacity, with many comms pros looking to build connections with others throughout the industry to bolster some of that capacity organically. By sharing our experiences, approaches, and resources, the entire industry benefits – but so, too, do each of our Members.

Member benefits include:

  • Professional Growth Opportunities (PD & Training)
  • Networking Opportunities
  • Professional Accreditation
  • Resource and Materials Sharing
  • Mentorship Program
  • And more!

Further, the CAMC is proud to act as an advocate for municipal communicators, its Members, and the industry, recognizing the increased impact of public communications and engagement on community success and sustainability.

Together, we can do more!
