Why professional accreditation?

One of the many benefits provided to CAMC Members is the opportunity for professional accreditation, through the Local Government Communications Professional (LGCP) accreditation program. This program ensures that municipal communicators have appropriate expertise specific to local government. So, why does this matter?

Plainly put, working in local government communications is unique. It's not like communications managed for business, non-profit, or any other industry – including other public institutions or other orders of government.

The demands placed upon municipal communicators have grown exponentially over the past five years, specifically, both in public expectations and Council priorities.

As such, the LGCP professional accreditation program aims to specifically build capacity within the industry, setting municipal communicators up for success while empowering them to operate effectively within their field, and raising the profile on municipal communications as a profession.

This two-year program explores municipal communications through three core modules:

  1. Public Communications
  2. Public Engagement
  3. Crisis Communications

Participants will explore each module through case studies, theory and best practice, with an eye on sound organizational strategy, innovation, and practical application and execution.

The current intake period for participation closes on January 31, 2025.
